Shivakumar gets anticipatory bail in land denotification case

Bangalore: The Lokayukta Court in Bangalore today granted anticipatory bail to Congress leader D K Shivakumar in an illegal land de-notification case filed against him, former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and others.

Lokayukta court judge N K Sudhindra Rao granted the relief on the condition that he furnish a personal bond of Rs two lakh and two sureties for the like sum and should take prior permission of the court before he leaves the state or the country.

The court also directed him to not to undertake any further construction on the said land in Benniganahalli and also not to sell it.

It may be recalled that Mr Yeddyurappa had been granted anticipatory bail in the same case in High Court last week.

On July 5, the Lokayukta court had ordered issue of summons to former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Shivakumar and others in the case filed by social activist T J Abraham and Kabbalegowda and adjourned the matter to August 2.

The four others accused in the complaints are Chandrashekhar (Revenue Inspector), Hanumanth (Tahsildar), Doddahanumaiah who have all now retired and Girish Puravankara (builder).

The accused have been charged under sections 13(1)(c), 13(1)(d), 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1958, section 3 of the Karnataka Restriction of Transfer of Land Act 1991 and sections 417, 409, 465 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
