Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu:
Six members of a goldsmith's family allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Palayamkottai in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, police said.
Police said they administered the poison to their five children aged between two and a half and 12 and then consumed it themselves.
Police suspect they took the extreme step as they could not afford the treatment of their two and half year old mentally challenged girl child.
One of the children has been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition, police said.
