Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala Government today announced a solatium of Rs.three lakh each to the families of nine persons killed in recent flash floods and land-slips in Kozhikode and Kannur district.
Those who lost property and crops would also be compensated, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram after a special cabinet meeting.
Oommen Chandy said he would visit the flood affected areas of Kannur and Kozhikode district tomorrow along with Finance Minister K M Mani and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty.
Those who lost land would be given the same extent of land with a ceiling of one acre, he said. As per the preliminary report of respective district collectors, the area suffered severe loss of property and crops.
The Cabinet also discussed in detail the drought condition prevailing in some parts of the state and decided to submit a memorandum to the Centre seeking financial assistance, Chief Minister Chandy said.
On power crisis, he said the government would extend an assistance of Rs.185 crores to the Kerala State Electricity Board to tide over the situation.
