Mangalore:
Congress President Sonia Gandhi will undertake a one day visit to Karnataka on Thursday, her second this year, to galvanise partymen for next year's assembly election.
During her brief visit to the coastal town of Mangalore, she would address prominent leaders of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district and party workers, Congress sources said.
Later she would launch the 'Kudroli Gokarnatha Temple Centenary celebrations' and Mangalore Dasara festivities, they said.
Ms Gandhi, who will arrive in Mangalore by a special aircraft by 4 pm, is expected to return to Delhi by the evening.
In April she participated in the Guruvandana programme and birthday celebrations of centenarian Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, the pontiff of Siddaganga mutt in Tumkur.
Her visit to this coastal district assumes significance as Congress is trying to re-establish its popularity in this region, which has now become a BJP stronghold.
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara and Opposition leader in the assembly Siddaramaiah will brief Sonia Gandhi on the present political scene in Karnataka, Cauvery issue and also the internal bickerings in the ruling BJP, they said.
