The Sri Lankan Navy on Tuesday arrested 43 Indian fishermen and seized their five boats.

The arrested fishermen are from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

On November 21, five Indian fishermen, convicted for smuggling drugs into Sri Lanka returned to India after they were spared death sentence.

The latest arrests of Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan authorities may worsen the situation in Tamil Nadu, where 130 people, protesting over President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit to Tirupati, have been taken into preventive custody.
