Chennai: The summer may be far from over for Chennai and its surroundings as the mercury continues to hover over the 40 degree Celsius mark.

The city and its neighbourhoods had not received any rainfall even as Udhagamandalam, Tirupuvanam and Melur received good rainfall.
The peak summer period, 'Kathiri' where the mercury soars over 40 degrees, ended in the last week of May but there has been no let up from the scorching heat in Chennai and some other parts of the state even as schools had reopened in the first week of June.
