Suspended cop among two held in land grab case

Hyderabad: Two state government employees, including a suspended police officer, were arrested on Monday for forcing a person sell a part his brother's land, officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.

Suspended police officer M Sarveshwar Reddy and a retired district registrar Anantharam had forced P Shankar sell his brother's land located near Madanpalli village under Shamshabad mandal in 2001 and also asked him to sign a sale deed, an ACB release said.

Shankar's bother P Gopal had died a few years after he had bought a five acres of agricultural land in Madanpalli village in 1994.

However, Reddy, who was an Assistant Commissioner of Police at Rajendra Nagar in 2001, forced Shankar to sell two acres of land in favour of Anantharam, who was a sub-registrar then, the release said.

The duo got registered the land in the name of Thimma Reddy (father-in-law of Anantharam) and P Shankar signed the sale deed as P Gopal (a dead person) and the documents were registered in 2011.

Reddy and Anantharam were produced before the additional judge for ACB cases, who sent them in judicial remand till April 20.
