Swine flu kills three in Bangalore

Bangalore: H1N1 influenza has claimed three lives in Bangalore in the last two months, Health officials said on Friday.

Swine flu has claimed the lives of two women and a man in Bangalore, health officials told Press Trust of India (PTI).

The patients died in different hospitals in Bangalore.

From January this year, 475 samples were tested for swine flu,of which 71 tested positive. While 68 patients were cured, three succumbed.

In 2011, out of the 2,699 samples that were tested, 108 tested positive, of which 16 died.

The number of patients who succumbed to swine flu in 2009 was 135 as against 120 in 2010, the officials said.

The officials said they held a meeting with Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda about the status of H1N1 and also the measures being taken to tackle it.

"We are conducting an awareness programme at all major hospitals in Bangalore on April 14 which will be followed by similar programmes at the district level", the officials said, adding, there was adequate stock of Tamiflu tablets-the medicine given for the influenza.
