Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: A local court in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu today granted five days police custody of banned Al-Umma activist "Paravai" Badusha, arrested in connection with planting of a pipe bomb near Madurai allegedly targeting senior BJP leader L K Advani in 2011.
Badusha, arrested yesterday at Punalur in Kerala, was produced before Judicial Magistrate Ramalingam, who remanded him in police custody for interrogation.
The accused was also allegedly involved in several cases of possessing or hoarding explosives and had registered cases against him under Explosives Substances Act, Arms Act 1959, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, and IPC.
His possible link to the murders of BJP leader Auditor Ramesh and Hindu Munnanni functionary Vellaiyappan would also be investigated, police said.
So far 19 persons, including "Police" Fakrudeen, had been arrested in connection with planting of the pipe bomb which was found under a bridge at Aalampatti about 30 km from Madurai, and defused hours before Mr Advani's 'Jan Chetna Yatra' was to pass through the route on October 28, 2011.
