Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Government has allotted Rs 1,500 crore for distribution of free laptops for school and college students this year, Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan said on Friday.
Free laptops scheme, which was limited to schools students only earlier, was extended college students also from this year, he said after inaugurating "INSPIRE Award 2012'', a state-level science exhibition in Coimbatore.
Mr Palaniappan said Rs 5,000 was given to schools students to encourage their scientific research to bring forth their abilities and also come out with innovative projects.
