Chennai:
Senior IPS officer Ashok Kumar was today named the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Tamil Nadu in place of K Ramanujam who on retirement would take over as Adviser to the Government.
After due consideration of the panel of names sent by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the state government will be appointing Ashok Kumar as the new DGP, Chief Secretary Mohan Verghese Chunkath said in a statement here.
Ashok Kumar was DGP intelligence prior to the latest elevation.
Mr Ramanujam would be the Adviser to the Government in the rank of DGP for a year starting from tomorrow or until the need exists, the statement added.
