Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee today passed resolutions against the governments of Karnataka and Kerala for not implementing the Supreme Court order in the Cauvery water and Mullaiperiyar dam issues respectively.
"TNCC seeks political parties in both states (Tamil Nadu and Kerala) to cooperate and implement the order of the Supreme Court in Mullaiperiyar issue without considering it a success or loss for any state," one of the 16 resolutions passed in the brainstorming meeting of the party today stated.
It said the apex court has given a "historic" judgement over the Mullaiperiyar issue, issuing direction that the height of the dam can be increased from 136 feet to 142 feet and a three-member panel will oversee the maintenance of the structure.
Citing reports that Kerala government was proceeding with parking facilities in the catchment area in the dam, the resolution said, "Public Works Department of Tamil Nadu should supervise this and take necessary action."
Another resolution condemned the Karnataka government for not accepting to set up Cauvery Management Board as per the order of the Supreme Court.
Accusing both Dravidian parties in power in Tamil Nadu -- AIADMK and DMK -- for not having constructed check dams to save Cauvery water, it stressed the government for such facility, which would contribute to farming in the Cauvery Delta area.
As for the Methane project in the Cauvery Delta area, the resolution urged the state and Central governments to stop the project, which was affecting the livelihood of farmers in the area.
Talking to reporters here, TNCC President B S Gnanadesikan said today's meeting went into reasons behind the poor show of the party in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
"We are going to reorganise block level units under the District Congress Committees and we are going to train the booth agents," B S Gnanadesikan said. "Congress should contest alone to reap fruits of the hardwork of Congress cadres," he said.
