Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has dropped School Education Minister Dr Vaigaichelvan from her cabinet. Planiappan, Minister for Higher Education, will hold the additional charge.
A press release from Rajbavan says the Tamil Nadu Governor dropped him from the Council of Ministers on the recommendation of the Chief Minister.
Dr Vaigaichelvan had defeated DMK strongman KKSSR Ramachandran in the last assembly polls from the Arupukottai constituency.
No reason has been cited for his removal. Only in February this year Ms Jayalalithaa had inducted Dr Vaigaichelvan into the cabinet. This is the ninth re-shuffle after she took over as Chief Minister in May 2011.
