Udhagamandalam: Tamil Nadu has set a target of Rs 1.5 crore foreign tourists to visit the state by 2023, state Tourism Minister, Shanmughanathan said today.
To achieve the target and attract foreign tourists, the government has allocated Rs.10,300 crore for the development of infrastructure at major tourist spots in the State, Shanmuganathan said while inaugurating Tea and Tourism Festival here.
The Stone House, constructed during British era, would be converted into a museum at a cost of Rs 45 lakh, he said.
Tamil Nadu stands first in attracting both domestic and foreign tourists in India, which is second in the world in the arrival of foreign tourists, he said.
The two-day annual festival was aimed at promoting tea, a major economy of the district and also tourism, Shanmuganathan said.
