Tamil Nadu Governor pays homage to Pantulu

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today paid homage to freedom fighter Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu on the occasion of his 140th "Jayanthi Day."

Hailing Pantulu as a "great freedom fighter" in India's independence struggle, Rosaiah said the former had stood in the forefront particularly in the Quit India Movement in 1942.

"His braveness attracted the people of this country. He underwent imprisonment for a long time for the sake of our nation's independence from the foreign yoke," he said, recalling that Pantulu later acted as Chief Minister of the Joint Madras State besides serving as Chief Minister of the State of Andhra Pradesh with Karnool as Headquarters.

"On the occasion of his 140th Jayanthi Day, I pay my homage and respects to the great leader late Prakasam Pantulu," he said in a Raj Bhavan statement.
