Chennai:
Expanding its 'Own your House' scheme of housing facilities for police, fire and rescue and prison personnel in the state, the Tamil Nadu government would build over 36,000 houses spread across all districts in the state.
Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said, "Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation would take steps to build own houses for police personnel from Constables to Deputy Superintendent of Police as well as from Fireman to Station Manager in Fire and Rescue Services."
The government would allot 10 acre of land in all district headquarters and a 100-acre plot in Kancheepuram district for this scheme, while construction would be undertaken by TNPHC, she said.
"Steps would be taken for the personnel to pay the cost either in cash or EMI, based on their preference," she said.
The scheme would be implemented in phases, based on the number of applications received from police and fire personnel and their place of preference, she said.
The Corporation would build 1,100 square foot houses for deputy superintendents of police and divisional officers, and 850 square foot homes for sub inspectors, inspectors, station managers and assistant divisional officers.
A 650 sqaure foot house would be built for constables, head constables, fireman, leading fireman and assistant station managers, she said.
Later, the Chief Minister expanded the scheme to prison personnel in the state.
