The Kudankulam nuclear power plant
Joining issue with Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who blamed the Centre for energy shortfall faced by Tamil Nadu, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry E M Sudarsana Natchiappan today asserted that adequate power has been ensured to the state by the Centre.
The Centre was providing adequate power from the Central grid as and when it was required by the State government and would provide major share of energy produced from Kudankulam nuclear plant, he told reporters in Chennai.
"As per the demand from State government, we will try our best to allocate majority of the power produced from Kudankulam plant", he said answering queries from reporters who drew his attention to a letter written by Ms Jayalalithaa to the Prime Minister yesterday accusing that Centre was responsible for shortage of 2500 MWs of energy in Tamil Nadu.
"At the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, the nuclear power reactors are expected to produce 1,000MW by December 15.
We will give the majority of the power produced to Tamil Nadu once it begins producing that much amount of power", he said.
Ms Jayalalithaa had urged Manmohan Singh to direct the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Coal to take effective steps to ensure that the power plants under the control of Central government maximise generation and restore the supply of power to Tamil Nadu.
