Hyderabad: Over ten legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were taken into police custody after they staged a protest outside the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's camp office in Hyderabad today.
Led by Telugu Desam Legislature Party deputy leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu, TDP legislators came to meet Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy adhering to an appointment fixed earlier.
However, when they were told that the Chief Minister was not available, the MLAs staged a protest outside his camp office.
The TDP delegation wanted to highlight the travails of farmers and other sections of people, caused by recent heavy rains and floods in various districts.
"We were asked to come at 11.30 AM today to meet the Chief Minister, but when we came at the appointed time, he was not available," Muddukrishnama Naidu said.
The AP Chief Minister left for Bengaluru this morning to celebrate Diwali, official sources said.
The TDP delegation pasted a memorandum, listing losses caused by the deluge, on the AP CM's camp office's wall and sat on a protest.
The police tried to prevent the MLAs and asked them to leave, after which a minor scuffle ensued.
The opposition leaders were then taken into custody and taken to the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police station.
