Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today suspended former minister and Member of Parliament, Mysoora Reddy, after he had breakfast with YSR Congress party leader Jagan Mohan Reddy this morning.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu took serious note of Mysoora's breakfast meeting with Jagan and ordered his immediate suspension from the party.
Mysoora drove to the Lotus Pond residence of the Kadapa MP and had an interaction with the latter, giving credence to talk that his joining the YSR Congress was now a mere formality.
Mysoora had been sulking ever since he was denied a second term in Rajya Sabha by the TDP in March this year and had been staying away from the party affairs even in his home district.
He even skipped Chandrababu's recent tour of Kadapa district for campaigning for by-elections in three constituencies.
His son has already joined the YSR Congress and talk was that Mysoora too would follow suit.
Incidentally, Mysoora contested unsuccessfully against Jagan in the by-election to Kadapa Lok Sabha seat in May last year.
Hailing from Kadapa district, Mysoora was a strong Congress leader along with (late) YS Rajasekhara Reddy and served as the state Home Minister in early 1990s.
After YSR became Chief Minister in 2004, he quit Congress and joined TDP and was nominated to Rajya Sabha in 2006.
Jagan is being interrogated by the CBI today in connection with a disproportionate assets case against him. He was refused anticipatory bail yesterday.
This is the first time that Mr Reddy will be questioned by the CBI in the case. Amid fears that he might also be arrested, he has asked supporters to stay calm.
On Tuesday, Jagan said in a letter to the Prime Minister that the Congress, the Opposition Telugu Desam Party, and the CBI were conspiring to have him arrested ahead of by-elections in the state, scheduled for June 12. Jagan's party is fielding candidates for all 18 constituencies which will vote.
