Telangana: Farmers in Chegunta Mandal in the Medak district of Andhra Pradesh today came out on the roads protesting against the lack of regular power supply.
A policeman and several farmers were injured in the clash as angry protestors pelted stones while the police ordered a lathicharge.
This kharif season, which is the main crop season for farmers, Medak has recorded the maximum rainfall deficit in the state at 50 per cent.
Most farmers are dependent on groundwater which needs to be pumped up using borewells. However that also requires power supply, without which the seedlings dry up.
