Vijayawada:
Telugu Desam Party MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao on Friday offered one of his kidneys to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who is undergoing treatment for renal failure.
The 73-year-old MP from Narsaraopet wrote a letter to Swaraj (64), who is currently on dialysis in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
"I am very sorry to hear about your health problems. As AIIMS doctors have advised you for renal transplant at the earliest, I shall be very grateful if you could kindly accept my offer for donation of my kidney to you for the transplant," the six-time MP said in the letter.
Ms Swaraj had on Wednesday tweeted that she was admitted to AIIMS due to kidney failure and has been undergoing tests for a transplant.
Support from politicians as well as people from a cross- section of society started pouring in soon after that.
