In a bid to create awareness about coastal environment, a ten-year-old boy has swum a 4.63 km stretch of the Chaliyar river with his hands and feet tied.
Cheered by hundreds of local people, Adil swam from Dolhin point in Beyore to Kodampuzha in three hours and 48 minutes on Wednesday. He achieved this feat under the watchful eyes of his father and Coach Abdulla Kutty.
Adil of Chaliyam in Kozhikode district is a class four student of Crescent Public School.
The boy had been practising swimming with his hands and feet tied for the past four years.
Two rescue workers also accompanied Adil during his feat.
A team of Fire and Rescue Servics personnel, coastal police and enthusiastic swimmers kept vigil in small boats as Adil swam. Adil was felicitated by the Ramanattukara Panchayat later.
