Kottayam: In line with centuries old tradition, the 'Thiruvonathoni' (a boat), carrying provisions to prepare Onam feast at Parthasarathy temple in Aranmula, today left from the 'Kattur Mahavishnu' temple near here.
The boat, which started from Kumaranellore on Sunday led by the senior member of 'Mangattu Illam', Narayanan Bhattathiri, will reach Aranmula tomorrow morning.
According to legend, the prerogative to host the feast for the deity at Parthasarathy temple has been bestowed with the members of the Illam at Kattur in Kozhencherry.
With the shifting of the Illam to Kumaranellore about 15 years ago, Bhattathiri took the journey in a newly made decorated country boat after traditional pooja. The vessel is accompanied by several snake boats.
He will return after the 'Athazha pooja' at the temple tomorrow evening, Thiruvonam day.
