Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: Three construction labourers were killed and four others injured when a portion of an old building being demolished collapsed on them in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, police said.
Fourteen workers were demolishing the structure belonging to the Shengottah Municipality for constructing a new building when a wall in the front portion collapsed, trapping seven of them.
Three men, between the ages of 27 and 30 from Melur near Shengottah, died on the spot while four others, pulled out of debris, had been admitted to the Government Hospital in nearby Thenkasi, police said.
Family members of the victims blocked the road in front of the local bus stand, demanding suitable compensation.
Thenkasi Revenue Divisional Officer Reho Baya rushed to the spot and pacified them.
