Three people killed in clash between two communities in Tamil Nadu

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: A tense situation prevailed at Alankulam in the district today after three persons were hacked to death in a clash between two communities.

Police said Selvaraj (52), a crusher unit owner and quarry owner and a former DMK councillor of Alangulam was killed at his unit by a gang.

Vaidhyalingam, a real estate owner and kiln owner of Kasinathapuram and Bhuvaraja (50) of Ayyanarkulam near Alangulam was also hacked to death by the motorcycle gang

Earlier three persons of Sevalar Puram, hailing from another community, were injured when they were attacked.

It was not known immediately if the three persons were killed in retaliation to the attack on the three others earlier this morning.

A strong police contingent has been posted in the village to prevent recurrence of further incidents.

Superintendent of Police Rajendira Bidari is camping in Alangulamn, police said, adding many people had been taken into custody in connection with the attacks.

The exact reason for the clash was being investigated, they said.
