Tiger, which had killed three people near Ooty, shot dead
Ooty: A tiger, which had allegedly killed three people near Ooty over the past two weeks, was shot dead by the forest officials today.

When the elusive killer tiger was spotted at the tea gardens in the Kundachappai area today, twelve days after the first attack, forest officers reportedly cornered the big cat to a radius of 500 metres.

Though officials said they wanted to catch the tiger alive by setting live traps, a senior officer told NDTV "We had to shoot the animal as he was elusive. He began killing cattle and having killed three people, he was bound to repeat attacks".

Authorities used thermal cameras to track the tiger.

45 schools were shut for a few days while 18 of them continue to be closed for the seventh working day.
