Tourist spots to be developed in Rajahmundry ahead of beach festival

Rajahmundry: East Godavari district Collector Neetu Prasad today said special measures will be taken for development of tourism spots in Rajahmundry and smooth conducting of Kakinada beach festival in November.

"There is every possibility for the development of tourism spots in the district and a comprehensive report on the four tourism spots here will be prepared and submitted to the government," Mr Prasad said during a meeting of the District Tourism Promotion Council.

"All steps have been taken for smooth conduction of Kakinada beach festival in November next," she added.

An awareness programme on the tourism spots will organised in the district in September.

"We have already sent a report to the state government for setting up Shilparammam in 7.5 acres and beach resorts on 14 acres of land in Kakinada," she said.

A 150-seat boat will be introduced in Godavari river in Rajahmundry to take people on trips across the river, she said.

The famous Mada project in Korangi mandal of the district will be developed as an eco-tourism project for which a report has been sent to the Centre with an estimated budget of Rs 6.62 crore, the Collector said.

For the development of Kakinada beach Rs 5.5 crore is required and about Rs 10 crore is needed for the development of temple circuit tourism between Samarlakota, Sarpavaram, Draksharama and Pithapuram, for which a proposal has been sent to the government, she added.

The Mada forest is located at a distance of about 45 kms from Kakinada and 100 kms from Rajahmundry over Coringa sanctuary. There are about 35 plant species and over 120 species of birds in the sanctuary.
