Two convicts escape from Kerala jail

Thiruvananthapuram: Two convicts escaped from the high security central prison in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday, police said.

Their escape was detected early in the morning when jail officials found their cell open and dummies on their beds.

The escapees were Ripper Jayanandan, who was serving a life term in multiple murder cases, and vehicle thief Prakasan.

Jayanandan had been caught earlier while trying to escape from a prison in Kannur and from another jail in Thrissur district.

Alexander Jacob, Director General of Police (Prisons) said that the duo used poles from the prison's kitchen garden to scale the 20-feet high wall.

"An alert has been sounded across the state and their pictures have been flashed. A team has been formed to arrest them," Mr Jacob said.
