Puducherry:
Two Sub-Inspectors (SI) were injured when a man wanted in a murder case hurled a bomb at them in a Casuarina grove at Uruvayur village early this morning when they were about to nab him, police said.
The SIs, acting on a tip off that the man was hiding in the grove, started combing operations and spotted him hiding in a culvert. He hurled a bomb at them, following which the officers fired back in self-defence, injuring him, Senior Superintendent of Police B Srikanth told reporters after visiting the injured police personnel in hospital today.
While one of the SIs sustained nose and shoulder injuries and is treated as an outpatient, the other has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. The murder accused has also been hospitalised, he said
The Superintendent of Police said the man had come here a few days ago from Tamil Nadu and killed a man near a theatre, mistaking him for his rival and then fled.
