Coimbatore:
Two minor girls were allegedly raped on a church campus in Pollachi in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu.
Both survivors are school girls, inmates of an unregistered home run by the church. The sexual assault allegedly took place on the roof of a commercial complex in the church compound. The District Collector, Archana Patnaik has ordered the closure of the home and transfer of the inmates to government homes.
Police have registered a case under POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) and are on the lookout for the suspect.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has awarded a relief of three lakh rupees for each girl and has also ordered officials to examine and frame guidelines for security at hostels. In a statement she says the Warden of the home was on leave and the person-in-charge did not stay in the children's home either. "This too has become a cause for this crime. I've instructed the Director General of Police to immediately arrest the person responsible and get him the appropriate punishment".
