Two more get bail in ship hit-and-run case

Alappuzha: A court on Tuesday granted bail to two officials who were on board the Singapore-based vessel Prabhu Daya when it hit a fishing boat off the coast on March 1 resulting in the death of five fishermen.

The two officials, Virendra Kumar Chauhan and Prasobh Sugathan had been remanded to judicial custody last month after being arrested by the Kerala Police.

The Alappuzha principal sessions court granted bail to the two on sureties of Rs 5 lakh each.

The Prabhu Daya, which did not report the mishap, was identified by authorities and was asked to report at the Chennai port, following which three officials were taken into custody and were remanded.

The captain of the vessel, Gordon Charles Pereira, is already out on bail.
