Madurai:
Two teachers have been arrested in Madurai today for allegedly sexually harassing girl students, police said.
According to a senior police officer, three girls studying in class VIII had complained to their parents that the teachers often spoke to them inappropriately and also touched them. The parents approached the local All India Democratic Women's Association, following which a complaint was filed.
The teachers have been booked under section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. If convicted, the accused could face a jail term of minimum three years.
The incident came to light on a day when cities across India are holding events to mark International Women's Day. In Chennai, thousands of men and women participated in a walkathon to raise awareness on women's rights and for women's safety.
