Ooty: A 69-year-old tourist from England was trampled to death by an elephant while he was engrossed in taking photographs in Masinagudi near the hill resort town today.
Collins, who had arrived here from Kochi, was taking a photograph of an elephant in a river when two jumbos attacked him from behind, police said.
As the foreigner was fully focused on taking the pictures, he did not hear the warnings from other tourists and in a fraction of a second, one of the elephants trampled him on his legs and abdomen.
He was rushed to the Masinagudi hospital, from where he was referred to Gudalur Government Hospital but declared brought dead, police added.
