Uttarakhand: Karunanidhi asks DMK leaders to donate their salaries

Chennai: A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made an appeal to the public to contribute for relief work in Uttarakhand, DMK Chief Mr M Karunanidhi has said his party would contribute Rs 25 lakh.

Taking cue from Congress President Sonia Gandhi who appealed to her party's MPs and MLAs to contribute a month's salary, Mr Karunanidhi too has asked DMK MPs and MLAs to follow suit.

The Uttarakhand tragedy which is being described as "Himalayan Tsunami" has left more than 500 dead and around 14,000 missing. The Indian Air Force and the Army have rescued 50,000 people so far. The Kedarnath temple area, the epicentre of the monsoon fury remains devastated.
