Vigilance detect 'irregularities' in Thrissur sports council

Thrissur: Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) officials have claimed to have detected alleged irregularities in handling of funds to the tune of Rs 50.23 lakh in the District Sports Council in Thrissur.

The irregularities were found during a raid conducted by the VACB officials yesterday acting on complaints by public and some sportspersons about "misappropriation" of the council funds by the authorities, VACB Deputy Superintendent of Police S R Jyotishkumar told PTI.

He said it was found that an amount of Rs 50,22,897 had been withdrawn from July 23, 20ll to Feb 9, 2012 for different requirements. But no vouchers to substantiate the expenses had been produced.

Besides, though the Indoor Stadium was rented out for different purpose at different times, the rental amount was not credited in the council account, he said.
