Dindigul:
Continuing their crackdown on the former DMK ministers in connection with disproportionate assets cases, Vigilance officials raided the houses of former Revenue and Housing Minister I Periyasamy and his relatives in parts of Dindigul district.
The raids were in progress at the residences of Mr Periyasamy, his son and daughter at Athoor and Bathlagundu, Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sources said.
The DVAC has registered a case against Mr Periyasamy, DMK's Dindigul district secretary and MLA, under the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988. He has been charged with accumulating wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as a minister in 2006-11.
A spinning mill at Bathlagundu belonging to his family was also raided.
Earlier the DVAC had raided the houses of former minister Veerapandi S Arumugam and his relatives in Chennai, Salem and Dharmapuri districts in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly amassing wealth over Rs 2.88 crore during his tenure as Agriculture Minister in the previous DMK regime.
Mr Periyasamy and Mr Arumugam are the latest among several DMK leaders and former ministers, besides MLAs to face police and DVAC action either on land grab charges or allegations of disproportionate assets, after the AIADMK government came to power in April last year.
