The vital organs of a brain dead 16-year-old were harvested in a hospital in Coimbatore today and donated to recipients across Tamil Nadu, sources at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) said.
Sanjay Suresh, a Class 10 student from a place near Tirupur, was seriously injured in an accident last week. He was declared brain dead on arrival. Acting on his wish to donate his eyes, Sanjay's parents decided to donate his vital organs, sources at KMCH where the organs were harvested on Sunday said today.
While the deceased's kidneys were retained at KMCH, the eyes were donated to Sankara Eye Care Centre in the city.
The heart valves and liver were airlifted to Chennai with the assistance of Global Hospitals, sources informed.
