Visakhapatnam: A six-year-old girl who slipped and fell into an open drain in flooded Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh is being searched by divers from the navy and marine police.
Adithi had just finished with her tuition and was about to get into the car that had come to pick her up when she slipped and fell into a drain. She fell through a one and a half feet gap in a cement slab, said witnesses, adding that she could not see the drain as the road was flooded after heavy rain.
The drain, after 700 metres, leads to a big open drain about a kilometer from the sea. The divers are also searching the Lawson Bay area, where the drain ends.
Adithi stayed with her grandparents in HB colony, a middle-class neighbourhood in the city. Her parents, both software professionals, live in Bangalore with their son.
The police have registered a case of "suspicious death."
The locals blamed the civic body for leaving the drain uncovered, saying they had complained but no one responded.
