Chennai:
Lawyers of the Madras High Court are boycotting work today. This is to protest what they see as a 'tardy' probe by the CBI in the murder of an Advocate's son. Satish Kumar, a law student, was murdered last year and his body was fished out from a lake in Chennai.
Satish's father Sankara Subbu is an advocate who has incidentally appeared for Tamil extremist groups in the past as well as in many criminal cases against the police.
As the murdered student's father suspected the involvement of police officers, the case was handed over to the CBI.
It is almost a year since the CBI took up investigation but the culprits have not been booked so far. The lawyers allege that the CBI is protecting city police officers. The resolution to stage today's boycott was taken at an Executive Committee Meeting of the Madras High Court Advocates Association on Monday.
There are over 3 lakh cases pending in the High Court.
