Coimbatore:
The VHP on Monday said that it would move court to get Ram Setu declared a national monument and slammed the Congress led UPA government for shifting to the Supreme Court the task of taking a decision on the matter.
"When it was possible for the Centre to bring in so many measures to protect the interests of minorities, it must do the same to protect the faith and honour of Hindus," Raghava Reddy, VHP International President told reporters here today.
He said the VHP would file a petition in the Supreme Court and its Tamil Nadu unit in the Madras High Court to get Ram Setu declared a national monument. At the same time, it would chalk out a programme to pressurise the Centre to take a positive stand on the issue, he said.
Mr Reddy said that the VHP's Golden Jubilee year in 2014 would see it work in all 8560 taluks across the country and two lakh villages and also take steps to enroll 51 lakh members.
Being an election year, India would witness a visible change with Hindus across the country unitedly deciding the fate of the country, he claimed.
Mr Reddy also termed as 'mischievous,' the Centre's move to enact the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence bill and said the VHP would not allow passage of such a bill in Parliament which he alleged was intended to divide Hindu society further.
He also demanded that the Centre withdraw the 4.5 per cent reservation for minorities, "which is being provided at the cost of backward Hindus."
