Nagapattinam: A woman allegedly stole a newborn baby from a government hospital in Nagapattinam yesterday, police said.
The woman, posing as a health worker, came near the mother's bed and took the baby away under the pretext of administering immunisation drops, the police said. When she did not return, the mother raised an alarm.
Hospital authorities launched a search, but were unable to locate the woman.
Police rushed to the spot and examined the CCTV footage, which showed the woman leaving the hospital with the baby.
The 23-year-old woman from Tirumarugal village had given birth to the baby girl a few days ago.
