Hyderabad:
The arrest of a woman human rights activist over her comments against a Congress leader has led to a controversy in Andhra Pradesh. Jaya Vindhayala, a senior woman officer in People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), a human rights body, posted the reportedly objectionable comments on Facebook. She was arrested on Sunday afternoon.
Krishna Mohan, the Congress leader, alleged defamation following which cops from his area in the Prakasam district travelled to Secunderabad to arrest Ms Vindhayala from her residence.
"A case was booked on April 18 following a complaint by the Chirala MLA and during the course of investigation, it was found that Vindhayala (had) posted the "objectionable" comments," Prakasam's Superintendent of Police K Raghuram Reddy said.
"A request will also be forwarded to Facebook authorities seeking deletion of the content," the cop added.
Ms Vindhayala had allegedly distributed pamphlets making objectionable allegations against Mr Mohan and Tamil Nadu Governor earlier in Chirala town in Prakasam district before posting the comments online, police said.
