Thiruvananthapuram:
In a bid to overcome the embarrassment over the much hyped protest by a housewife against LDF activists recently, hundreds of women activists of the Front today blockaded 'Cliff House', the official residence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, over the solar scam.
CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the 'all-women Cliff House seige' and made it clear the Front would continue the stir, demanding Mr Chandy's resignation.
Justifing the agitation, he said slogans raised at the protest are more important than difficulties caused to people over the stir.
Mr Vijayan said much of the democratic and other rights were achieved through struggle and agitations and vested interests had always resisted such agitations launched for change.
"Not only that, a section of the media, especially those supporting right wing ideologies had mocked the agitation and tried to humiliate those leading the agitation', he said.
This section of media had fallen 'to a new level' with their onslaught on LDF over the mode of agitation, he added.
Sandhya, a resident near 'Cliff House' area had had a heated argument last week with LDF leaders in front of the road leading to the CM's house over the hardships faced by common people due to the blockade.
She had protested after she found the road leading to the place she was residing barricaded by police in view of the LDF stir when she returned after dropping her children at school.
Adding to LDF embarrassment, a businessman offered her a Rs five lakh reward for challenging CPI(M) LDF opposition activists.
Her protest also had a positive result with LDF leaders deciding to keep open a pathway for small vehicles and two wheelers.
The blockade of Chief Minister's office is another phase of the stir launched by LDF after the solar scam came into focus in June 2013.
Though Congress led UDF government under pressure ordered a judicial probe by a retired High Court Judge, LDF was not satisfied and demanded a probe by a sitting High Court judge.
The scam pertains to alleged financial cheating by Saritha S Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan by offering them solar energy solutions.
The scam snowballed into a major political row after the arrest of a Personal Assistant in Mr Chandy's office for allegedly aiding the accused.
