Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala joined the nation in celebrating the 'International Women's Day' by holding a walkathon in the state capital today.
Around 4000 women from various walks of life participated in the 'She Walkathon 2014', organised by the Kerala State Women Development Corporation with the support of "Malayala Manorama" daily.
The march was organised to empower women and create awareness among them on various issues.
Noted social activist Bhanwari Devi flagged off the march from the premises of Kanakakkunnu palace in the heart of the city in the morning.
City Mayor K Chandrika and state Mahila Congress president Bindhu Krishna led the march.
Students of various schools and colleges, journalists, IT professionals and cinema-serial artists were among the participants.
