Salem, Tamil Nadu: Over Rs 63 lakh in cash was seized in two cases in the district where by-election to the Yercaud assembly constituency is scheduled on December 4, police said today.
In the first incident, Rs 60 lakh was seized from a car proceeding to Kerala at Mummudi checkpost last night.
Police said revenue officials seized Rs 3.5 lakh from another car.
Election authorities have announced that anyone carrying excess of Rs 50,000 in cash in Yercaud, where polling is due on December 4 should have valid documents. Otherwise, the amount would be confiscated for violation of poll code.
Ten kg of gold valued at Rs three crore was seized from a car on November 11.
