New Delhi:
With the allegations of corruption making headlines each day, there is a cloud over the Commonwealth Games. While Games authorities promise it will be the best games ever, the President of Commonwealth Federation Mike Fennell sounds a worried man.
In an interview to a national daily, Fennell said: "Allegations of corruption are of major concern to everyone and, when made, they must be investigated by the relevant authorities and where necessary, action taken. The extensive coverage this matter has received does unfortunately tarnish the image of the Games."
However, he refused to accept that the current allegations of corruption would impact future editions of the Games.
Fennell, who on his last year's visit had warned India of delays and problems relating to delays, said all authorities needed to focus on delivering against the commitments that were made to the athletes of the Commonwealth.
"We are where we are and all stakeholders need to focus on delivering against the commitments that were made to the athletes of the Commonwealth. There are just under eight weeks remaining. Everyone needs to focus on completing the preparations to ensure that we have successful Games. If that occurs I'm sure we will have a successful Games," he said.
