Arjun Atwal's fortunes kept fluctuating in a card of one-over 73 but he still managed to gain a couple of spots to be tied 38th after the third and penultimate round of the WGC - HSBC Champions Sheshan International golf tournament here on Saturday.
Atwal's overall total stood at one-over 217 after he managed seven birdies, four bogeys and a double bogey.
The 10th tee starter was off the blocks poorly by dropping a bogey but he made amends by gaining a stroke on the 11th.
His fortunes took a tumble in the closing stages of the back-nine when he found a double bogey and a bogey on the 17th and 18th holes respectively.
A birdie on the 18th was hardly a consolation as Atwal made the turn two-over.
The front nine was better as Atwal picked up five birdies against a couple of bogeys but could not avert an over-par finish.
Francesco Molinari stayed at the top of the leaderboard after a five-under 67 took his total to 14-under 202. Lee Westwood, who also carded a 67, took the second spot with a total of 13-under 203.
