Baljit slams Gill for stopping eye treatment

New Delhi: Baljit Singh, the Indian hockey goalkeeper who got injured on his eye because of a freak golf ball accident in training, has lashed out at sports minister MS Gill saying he told him that money for his treatment had to be stopped because there was no hope of recovery.

"This is absolutely correct. I went & met Mr MS Gill to ask him about what was possible for my continuing eye treatment. He indicated to me that the ministry had spent money on sending me to USA despite there being no hope of recovery. Clearly everything was done just because of media pressure," Baljit said.

Baljit had sustained a serious injury to his right eye during a regular training session at the camp in Pune in July last year.

According to the doctors, the global rupture had damaged the retina, cornea and lens of his eye because of the direct trauma suffered due to this incident.

He was operated upon at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, but was later sent to USA for further treatment.
