The IPL governing council has asked the BCCI president Shashank Manohar to look into International Management Group issue. Manohar will present a full report on to the board's working committee during its annual general meeting September 24.
IMG was the organiser of the first two seasons of the Indian Premier League. But the BCCI terminated the sports management firm's 10-year contract recently for being "too expensive". This has led to a protracted battle with political undertones.
The termination letter to IMG was sent by the board's secretary N Srinivasan, a powerful BCCI member. He accused the group of over-charging and said the amount of money charged for the second season of IPL was disproportionate to the services rendered.
Former BCCI president Sharad Pawar has criticised BCCI's decision to nullify IMG's deal, saying it would put IPL stakeholders as well as the board in trouble. He has asked the board for an explanation on the decision to terminate IMG's contract.
Pawar said the move would lead to a prolonged legal battle and show the BCCI in bad light.
Pawar had written a letter to the board president on this. Sony, broadcasters of IPL, has also voiced concern on the matter and has written to the BCCI, as have most of the IPL franchise owners.
