Beijing Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra on Tuesday unveiled the uniforms of the volunteers and workforce team of the Commonwealth Games here.
Bindra, who is also one of the Commonwealth Games brand ambassador, said its time to turn the focus on the athletes as the multi-sport event is round the corner.
"I started my international shooting career as a 15-year-old boy at the XVI Commonwealth Games at Kuala Lumpur. It has been 12 years and today I'm honoured to be associated with the 19th Commonwealth Games," Bindra told reporters after unveiling the uniform.
"The Games are about the athletes, they are the stakeholders and from now on they should be the focus. Hundreds of athletes are toiling hard but not too much of attention is paid to them, so its time we shift our focus on the real stars.
"There are also several world-class competitors who will be seen in Delhi. There are World and Olympic champions and many future champions who will compete. They too deserve a little bit of attention, apart from the ones who are not turning up," he added.
Bindra also appealed to the people of Delhi to support the Games so that India can have a successful event.
"I would like to appeal to the people of India and specially the citizens of Delhi, to rally behind the Games, support and inspire the athletes, as I believe that all of us have a role to play in the success of the Games," Bindra said.
The uniform for the volunteers consists of two pairs of polo 'T-shirt', lower tracks and socks, a cap, a pair of shoes, one sipper bottle, a rain jacket and a waist pouch.
Basic colours of the volunteer's uniforms are vibrant red and contrasting white. Lower track has a red base with white stripe on the sides with Delhi 2010 word mark and the polo 'T-shirt' has a white base with red patch work with logo and word mark.
"Reebok India being our sponsor are providing uniform worth Rs.9.85 crores free of cost, while OC is purchasing uniform worth Rs.12.01 cr. for volunteers, paid staff, maintenance staff, Security etc," said OC Secretary General Lalit Bhanot.
The press conference was also attended by OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi, OC treasurer AK Motto among others.
